Yoakum twins focused heading into senior season
As Yoakum football wraps up it’s first week of practice, there’s a newfound focus on the field, especially for twins Jordan and Joshua Moore.
Last year, the highly-touted duo went through the madness that is college football recruiting. However, now heading into their senior season, each one has announced their college decision and is focused on the season ahead.
Defensive back and wide receiver, Jordan Moore, committed to Texas A&M in December out of 32 college offers. He actually wanted to announce his decision earlier, but his mom wanted him to wait until the Bulldogs’ 2016 season was over. Now, Jordan says he’s glad he can focus more on his senior season, rather than recruitment.
“It feels great coming into this season without having so much pressure off the field on my back,” said Jordan. “Last year I had a lot of pressure off the field, after I got out of practice, or running to go call a college coach, or three a night. Now I can just call one and be like, ‘Hey Coach Sumlin, practice went well, how did yall’s practice go,’ and talk like that to him.”
This will be the last year, at least in the near future, that the brothers will play on the same team. Joshua Moore, who is also a receiver and defensive back, is headed to play for Nebraska next year, after picking from 53 scholarship offers. However, the twins almost didn’t spend this last year together. In February, Joshua announced he was transferring to IMG Academy. After spending the spring there, though, he chose to return to Yoakum and help get the Bulldogs back to state.
“My family is here, all my brothers are here,” said Joshua. “The outcome last year wasn’t what we wanted and I had a bad taste in my mouth. I hate losing, as any football player should, so I just felt like I needed to come back and finish what we started.”
The Bulldogs’ first scrimmage will take place in Yoakum on Friday, August 18, against Gonzales.
