Yoakum High School alumni give back to the community through annual supply drive
James and Brittiany Barnett host annual supply drives on behalf of their business, JB Hair, LLC
YOAKUM, Texas – Yoakum High School alumni James and Brittiany Barnett hosted their 2nd Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive on behalf of their Nacogdoches-based business, JB Hair, LLC.
“One of the joys from the event was seeing how happy the younger kids were just being able to grab backpacks and fill them up with supplies,” said Brittiany. “Knowing that they will have most of what they need for school is awesome.”
After high school, James attended and graduated from Texas State University. Brittiany graduated from Angelina Junior College, before transferring to Stephen F. Austin University. They both began their hair extension business in 2019.
The couple was born and raised in the Lavaca/DeWitt County area. They dreamed of being able to give back to the community and to help foster the upcoming youth. One of James and Brittiany’s favorite quotes is: “The highest human act is to inspire.” by Nipsey Hussle.
“We hope to inspire everyone, including businesses, that if you can, give back to your community,” said Brittiany. “Even if it’s something small; always pay it forward.”
James and Brittiany began this annual supply drive as a last-minute backpack giveaway. It turned into an annual supply drive for the entire community with local outreach and support.
Donors from this year’s event include:
- The Asbury Alumni Reunion,
- Crossroads Bank,
- Allie Tyler,
- Breanna Walker,
- Kendria Wilson,
- Jason Washington,
- Earlisha Earls
- and Macie Washington with Macie’s Designs.
“The amount of support and outreach we received prior to the event and the amount of families that showed up, well before doors opened at 10 a.m., let us know that we successfully generated enough awareness and would have an amazing turnout,” said Brittiany. “In our eyes, one less family worrying about supplies would be a success, but having over 100 children be able to get supplies was phenomenal.”
