Yoakum beats Edna in a thriller
Now to a huge game in the district Don calls the little Sec West.
Edna, the area’s only unbeaten team, visiting Yoakum, ranked 11th in the ap state 3a poll. David was in the land of leather for that.
Yoakum receives the ball first and then on the first drive, Yoakum Quarterback Hagen Garvin throws deep to Larry Hysaw then he is pushed out of bounds after the big catch.
Now Yoakum is driving down the field when Edna’s defense stepped up by swarming the bulldogs running backs forcing Yoakum to punt. After the punt Edna offense started their running the ball down Yoakum’s throat. Running back Dayton McCoy breaks free for a big gain. Later on the same drive running back Kenny Haynes takes the hand off and runs in for a score putting Edna up 7-0. Yoakum’s running back Montreal Jones is running as hard as he can but the Edna defense is too much taking him down. After forcing another punt Edna hands it off to Dayton McCoy where he slips through defenders and takes it all the way for a big touch down putting Edna up 14-0. After starting off slow Yoakum’s offense starts to pick up and they are marching down the field. Once marching down the field it’s 1 and goal and Yoakum’s Mason Arkadie takes the direct snap and runs it in for the score. Edna still up 14-7 late in the second half. Yoakum comes back to win 21-17. Edna is no longer undefeated.
