Workforce Solutions is helping individuals get jobs including Caterpillars laid off employees
VICTORIA, Texas — This layoff is devastating for several families right before the holiday season.
Henry Guajardo, the Executive Director of Workforce Solutions of the Golden Crescent said “the timing on this we couldn’t predict because we never know when someone is going to get laid off, but 120 is quite a few”.
The temporary employees were notified that their assignment was ending, for some, it will be effective on November 1 st . This news didn’t come as a surprise to Guajardo, he said he had some indication that something was going to happen but here’s how the Workforce is helping.
“We have a job fair coming up on Thursday of next week. Currently, we have approximately 30 employers that are registered to participate. The job fair is going to be over at Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex right across from Caterpillar. That will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m,” said Guajardo.
Each individual who attends the job fair or registers with Workforce Solutions could also be eligible for additional assistance.
“Some of them may be eligible to go back to school and get training in one of our targeted occupations, such as the healthcare industry, IVN, RN, process technology, I&E. Those are good-paying jobs and there’s a need for those occupations, and we can provide scholarships for those individuals who are eligible,” said Guajardo.
