White Helmet rescue workers evacuated from Syria

The Israeli military evacuated hundreds of Syrian rescue workers known as the White Helmets from a war zone in southwestern Syria overnight.

The complex and first-of-its-kind operation was done at the request of the u-s and European allies.

Some 422 White Helmet members and their families were evacuated to Jordan, as Russian-backed government forces close in on southwest Syria and continue to gain ground across the country.

The evacuees are expected to be resettled in Europe and Canada in the coming weeks.

The White Helmets describe themselves as a volunteer workforce that acts to save people in Syria’s war zones.
