West soccer falls to Vets, East sweeps Carroll

Hosting a pair of games during spring break week, Monday was far from a day at the beach for West soccer.

The Warriors dropped a pair of district contests to Veterans Memorial on Monday morning, with the boys getting shut out 3-0, and the girls falling 3-1. Both West varsity soccer teams have two games remaining on the district schedule, and despite Monday’s losses both are firmly in the playoff picture.

“It’s all up for grabs, still,” said Hazael Avila, head coach of the West boys. “It’s a tough district, so we need to get as many points as we can to finish strong and try and make a statement in the playoffs.”

Jaydyn Rangel scored the lone goal for West in the second contest, while Macey Frantz recorded 10 saves in net. The Warriors are 8-3-2 in district following the loss, good for third place in the standings with the postseason just around the corner.

On the road in Corpus, meanwhile, East soccer took care of Carroll in their own pair of Monday matinees. The boys played first, defeating the Tigers 4-0 behind a pair of goals from Omar Perez. Lucas Chavez added a goal for the Titans in the victory.

The East girls followed with a win in their game, defeating Carroll 5-0 to close out the week. Chloe Spencer recorded a hat trick for the Titans, also tallying a pair of saves in goal.

East and West varsity soccer will resume play next Tuesday, once school is back in session.
