West Powerlifting Hosts Big Meet Saturday
Last Chance For Boys To Qualify For State
Victoria, Texas —
A major high school powerlifting meet, coming Saturday to West.
The Westside Bar Benders Bash is the last chance for boys powerlifters to qualify for state. That’s why this is a boys only meet. Warrior powerlifting head coach Dustin Meaux told me about 15 teams and 120 lifters will be competing. The host Warriors, East, Calhoun, St. Joe, Cuero, Yorktown, and Refugio will be among the area teams competing. I talked about the meet with coach Meaux and Warrior senior Noah Nelson.
Said coach Meaux, “This is really good competition because every pound matters right now. Kids are fighting and clawing, trying to get the last little bit they can to gain a spot here, gain a spot there.”
Said Nelson, “I’ve added about 50-60 pounds on my bench, at least 70 on my deadlift, about a hundred on my squat.”
The Westside Bar Benders Bash starts Saturday morning at 9:00 at the West high school gym.
