West girls, boys basketball beat Moody

Warriors basketball gets a sweep on Friday

VICTORIA, Texas — West boys and girls basketball both had big district games to win on Friday night, and they delivered.

The Warriors earned a sweep of Moody at home Friday night, with the girls winning a hard-fought, 56-50 game to start the night, and the boys following with a 67-41 blowout.

With their win, West girls basketball held firm in the fourth spot in the district standings. They got a team-high 13 points from Alana Johnson and Aaliyah Castillo in Friday’s victory and will play Flour Bluff in the bi-district round on February 18th at 6:00 pm in Woodsboro.

West boys basketball’s blowout win kept them firmly in the hunt for the final district playoff spot. Kevin Rankin and Omar Posada dropped 16 points each for the Warriors, while La’Trell Barfield and Jayden Smith both had 11. The win improved the Warriors’ record to 8-5 in district on the season, with a rivalry game against East looming on Tuesday night.

West girls basketball will play East Tuesday as well, with both games taking place in the East gym.
