West Football’s Amazing Comeback

West football, pulling off one of the most amazing comebacks in its history Friday night.
The Warriors got the ball with 1:27 left in the fourth, down 11 to Flour Bluff. Donovan Harris then hit Brandon Gonzales with a touchdown pass, and West got the two-point conversion, to cut the Hornets lead to three with 1:12 left. After a successful onside kick, recovered by the Warriors’ Julian Edwards, Harris and Gonzales linked up again for the game-winning touchdown with 27 seconds left. West scores 15 points in 45 seconds and pulls off the 39-35 win. That puts the Warriors in a tie for second in district with Miller at 4-2, with the Bucs owning the head-to-head tiebreaker with West. Head coach Courtney Boyce told me how excited the Warriors are after that big win. “That’s the most exciting part about it. We just continued to give our team a chance. Our guys did that and we’re just real proud of them.” West football, with a big trip to Corpus Christi Friday night to take on district leading Veterans Memorial at Cabaniss Stadium.
