West Football Makes The Playoffs

Warriors Clinch Spot With OT Win

West football has a playoff spot for the first time in two years, while working on a three-game winning streak.

The Warriors upped their district record to 5-2 with a Friday night overtime win over Veterans Memorial at Memorial Stadium. That win keeps west in a tie for second with just one regular season game left. In OT, the Warriors’ Kase Eliot hit a 33-yard field goal, his third of the game, to give West the huge win, without the benefit of scoring a touchdown. Head coach Courtney Boyce told me how it feels to be back in the playoffs.

“I’m just excited for this team and the fans of the school. The kids have definitely worked extremely hard and brought a great deal of intensity to practice. That’s been a big factor for them bringing that intensity with them on game night.”

West football finishes the regular season Thursday night in Corpus Christi at 7:00 against Ray. Tickets for that game will be on sale Tuesday and Wednesday at the VISD Athletic Office from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
