West basketball splits home district games

Warriors go 1-1 against Carroll on Tuesday

Victoria, TEXAS — The Warriors got a split of their district home games Tuesday night at West.

West girls basketball got the action started Tuesday against Carroll, the fourth ranked team in the state. Despite keeping the Tigers close for the entire game, the Warriors fell 53-47 as they saw their district record drop to 4-5 on the season. The West girls will be back in district play on Friday on the road at King.

In the second leg of the doubleheader, the West boys earned a big district victory. Junior Kevin Rankin stole the show for the Warriors, scoring a season-high 37 points — including a game-winning three pointer with under 5 seconds left — to lift West to a 49-48 win. The Warrior boys improved to 4-3 in district play with the dramatic victory, and will travel to King on Friday as well.

Tip off for the girls on Friday will be 6:15 pm, with the boys following at 7:30 pm.
