Game of the Week: The Calhoun Sandcrabs host the El Campo Ricebirds
PORT LAVACA, Texas – The Game of the Week this Friday will be between the No. 8 ranked Calhoun Sandcrabs and No. 6 ranked El Campo Ricebirds. The Sandcrabs lost their first game of the season to Waco La Vega but got a win against the Stafford Spartans last week. Both games on the road, Calhoun will now return home for the game against El Campo. Calhoun fell from the number 5 spot to number 8 after the loss to La Vega. The Sandcrabs were district champions last year with a record of 63-14. Senior Jarius Stewart rushed for 149 yards against the Spartans with 5 TDs. He continues to have a good season.
The El Campo Ricebirds are coming off a bye week. They are 1-0 in the season winning the Gonzalez Apaches 35-0 in the first week. They went 10-3 last season and advanced to the regional round of the playoffs. Senior Cullen Braden rushed for 73 yards on 5 carries with 2 TDs against Gonzales. Both teams in top 10, it’s going to be a great match.
