SHINER, Texas — The Pepsi Athlete of the Week is left fielder Keenan Hailey of the Shiner Comanches. Hailey went 4-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and two runs scored, helping his team to a win over Kenedy in the regional semifinals. Hailey says he was trying to hit every strike that he got, he didn’t take a lot of pitches and tried to fight off the curveball.

It felt really great, and just knowing you can go up there and hit any pitch you can. Just getting on and hitting people in, it just felt great.

Hailey started playing baseball when he was little, when he joined tee-ball and has been playing since. In addition to baseball, Hailey plays football, as a tight end, defensive end and linebacker. His favorite memory is from earlier this season when he hit his first homerun at the Sacred Heart tournament against Round Rock Christian and he remembers everyone going crazy. Its easy to say that he’s enjoying being part of this team.

It means a lot. A lot of freshmen get to be on varsity, it’s hard.

Hailey’s favorite subject is art because he says you can express anything you want in any piece of art work. His favorite artist is Bob Ross. Hailey enjoys drawing anime and real life animals. Hailey isn’t picky when it comes to his favorite food hamburgers. He says he’ll eat a burger from anywhere.
