WATCH: Athlete of the Week- Kaylie Olivarez
HALLETTSVILLE — Kaylie Olivarez pitched a no-hitter game for the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas in their playoff game shutting out their opponent and leading her team to be regional semifinal champions.
It was really exciting because you usually don’t hear about that, said Olivarez. There is hitting and competition so it was new for me.
Olivarez started playing little league around age 4 and joined select team at age 10. She had to beg her parents to let her try pitching and thankfully they did. By age 12 Olivarez began taking pitching lessons.
As a sophomore, she has experience playing in the playoffs from last season and knows what to expect. She feels more comfortable and confident this season. Olivarez says she’s glad to be on this journey with her team.
It means a lot because just like the bond we have, said Olivarez. We all have the same goals, so seeing us achieving that and getting closer and closer is an amazing feeling.
When Olivarez isn’t pitching she is playing first base. Either way she is cheering on her teammates and always has their backs. Her favorite food is baked potatoes and she loves eating Coca Puffs with chocolate milk. Olivarez likes watching the Texas A&M aggies play softball and looks up to Softball legend Cat Osterman.
