Warming center and homeless shelter prepare to open this weekend

Cold snap expected Sunday morning

VICTORIA, Texas – The Salvation Army of Victoria is prepared to open its shelter Sunday through Tuesday as the area will see a cold snap. The Salvation Army does not have shelter for women and is referring women to the Homeless Coalition which has a warming shelter.

The warming center is at Our Saviours’ Lutheran Church, 4102 N. Ben Jordan, Entrance A, in Victoria.  Their offices are located at 120 S. Main, Suite 175. The emergency warming center will open over night Saturday, January 1, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. On Sunday, January 2, 2022 it will open again from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.  Due to coronavirus precautions and social distancing the center can host about 30-40 guests.

Coronavirus precautions and social distancing will prohibit transportation by these agencies.

People can request a hotel voucher by calling Mid-Coast Family Services at 361-575-7842. Identification is required by hotel management. Emergency hotel vouchers are for Saturday through Sunday with check out Monday at 11 a.m.

Donations to help purchase hotel stays may be made be made by telephone at 361-575-7842 or at Mid-Coast Family Services offices located at 111 S. Liberty Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The warming center accepts donations of blankets, gloves, thermals, and winter coats. Volunteers, food donations, and monetary donations are requested as well. You may contact Kim Pickens at 361-433-5388 for more warming center details or to volunteer.
