Taskforce reveals two shootings are related

The Victoria Police Department held a press conference Monday afternoon on March 18th, to speak about the recent shootings.

Chief J.J. Craig says on March 11th they created a taskforce to addresss all of the recent shootings.

The taskforce allows VPD to work with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office along with U.S. Marshal’s Office to address some of the recent shootings. Police Chief J.J. Craig says after investigating the Bonham Street and Mistletoe Avenue shooting they believe they are related.

“We believe based on evidence that the 2 shootings are related. The Bonham shooting revealed that a vehicle leaving the area and patrol was alerted and was able to conduct a traffic stop on that vehicle,” says VPD Chief J.J. Craig.

The next shooting VPD addressed happened on March 12th at 1:15 a.m. on the 100 block of Apalossa Drive. Chief Craig said a 34 year old man was shot by an unkown object.

“Since this occurred during our taskforce operation, I bring it up today this investigation is ongoing,” states VPD Chief Craig.

The taskforce also arrested several people involved in connection to the shooting on October 9th, 2018 a shooting at Cracker Barrel convenience store at Halsey and Crestwood.

VPD Chief Craig said they “arrested Jose Vasquez, 17 yr old male on March 15th. Another 17 year old Mark Sanchez on March 13th.”

Monday March 18th at 12:30 p.m. the U.S. Marshal’s along with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrested two others in the connection with Halsey and Crestwood shooting. VPD Chief Craig says they are “George Paul De La Rosa and Chelsea Poe.”

The District Attorney Constance Filley-Johnson had some words about the shootings.

“We are not putting up with behavior in our community that endangers the safety of our citizens and scares people. So we are working together and continue to work together and try to get a handle on this situation,” says District Attorney Constance Filley-Johnson.

During the taskforce operation, they made a total of 30 arrests and recovered eight guns.
