VPD holds press conference about missing juvenile
VPD held a press conference Sunday afternoon to give an update on a missing juvenile case.
Newscenter 25’s David attended and tells us more. Police Chief JJ Craig says VPD responded to an unknown disturbance call on august 4th at 1:30 am at the Lova apartments.
“Patrol officers responded and obtained information from witnesses that indicated that a 16 year old juvenile had been shot by another juvenile inside a red pick up truck,” says Police Chief JJ Craig. Craig says the red pick up truck then left the apartments with the body, VPD searched the southeast side of Victoria for the suspect.
After hours of looking Craig says the Victoria County Sheriffs office located the red truck at an apartment complex in Placedo.
“This vehicle matched the description of the vehicle that left the Lova apartments,” adds Chief Craig. Around 10:30 am a 15 year old male from Victoria was arrested and charged with murder and tampering with evidence.
VPD kept searching for the victim and found him hours later.
“At 8:17pm the victim was located by the Victoria Police Department in a field in the 5300 block of Lone Tree road. Unfortunately the victim was deceased,” declares Chief Craig. VPD identified the victim as 16 year old Jerimiah Hernandez.
VPD says the investigation continues as they search for a motive behind the shooting.
They added there is only one suspect in question at the moment.
“The investigation is ongoing and we are focusing our efforts only on one juvenile offender right now,” tells Chief Craig.
