Voter registration drive aims to get Crossroads residents ready for the November election
Voter registers for the first time since becoming a citizen
VICTORIA, Texas – Ana Carroll became a U.S. Citizen three years ago in March and has lived in Victoria for about 21 years. She’ll be casting her vote for the first time this November.
“It’s exciting, it’s very exciting, don’t get me wrong, it’s just real difficult times right now,” Carroll said.
She learned about Thursday’s voter registration drive from her clients.
“That was amazing, that is really, really good,” Carroll said. “I think more people should do that. I think that people need to encourage their right to vote.”
B.J. Nelson, a Victoria resident, organized a voter registration drive with help from local media and breakfast bags donated by the Bomb Diggity and a little morning pick-up from The Box Coffee.
“This is just so important, this is such an important election this year and you know there are some people that don’t really understand that you have to register to vote to then actually get your registration card, to then vote,” Nelson said. “It’s a process, so I don’t want anyone in November to say, ‘Oh, I didn’t know that.'”
Early voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 13, and lasts through Friday, Oct. 30.
“I’ll probably do early voting, yes, as soon as I get my new card,” Carroll said.
If you missed out on Thursday morning’s drive, you still have until October 3 to register.
