VISD tennis players advance to regionals
After playing in the District 27-5A Tournament on Friday, three VISD tennis players advanced to regionals.
The district tournament took place at Victoria West High School. Playing on her home court, Corinne Hall of West, competed in the girls singles final against Andrea Nguyen of Foster. Hall lost the first set, 6-2, won the second set, 6-4, but lost in the third set. The Warrior sophomore then had a playback match against Brooke Edwards from Angleton to secure the number two spot. Hall won the third-set tiebreaker, 8-6, to become the first Warrior girl to advance to regionals since 2011.
East’s mixed doubles team of Daniel Shay and Claire Wang won its third place match, then won a playback for second place, 7-6, 6-2, over Kowal and Alvarado from Terry. With the win, the pair advanced to regionals.
East’s girls doubles team of Adria Brittain and Tiany Escalona won third place. Then in their playback match against Yeh and Lu from Calhoun, the Titans lost in the third set, 6-4.
