VISD Swimming District Preview

West Boys, Girls Look To Repeat As District Champs

VISD hosts the district swimming and diving meet Friday.

The West boys and girls look to repeat as district team champs. VISD swimming head coach Kathleen Fitzgerald told me the top Warrior swimmers are Jackson Crocker, Ross Nunley and Branton Rainey on the boys side, and for the girls, Cristina Cervantes, Gwen and Vivian Shepherd, and KateLynn Pratka. For East, Kasey Townes for the boys and Angelyn Tovar and Janesca Sanchez are coach Fitzgerald’s top picks. Three VISD swimmers talked with me about their seasons so far.

Said Rainey, “I’m swimming about the same times I was last year. I had to overcome an injury in my shoulders over the summer. ”

Said Titan boys sophomore swimmer Caden Posey, “Pretty darn good. I’m getting up there with Jackson and Ross, swimming with them. As a team, doing pretty good. ”

Said Sanchez, “Overall it’s been real fun. We all get along great. We all help each other when we’re all down. ”

The district swimming and diving meet starts Friday morning at 10:30 with the diving at the VISD Aquatic Center. The swimming starts at 12:30.
