VISD Lauren Johnson Golf Preview

Titans, Warriors Girls Go For Title

VISD girls golf, ready to play in the Lauren Johnson Memorial Invitational.
Last time the East girls varsity played in Victoria, they took first at the VISD Fall Classic. They look to get a strong start on their 2019 schedule. I asked two Titan girls how their season has gone so far.

Said junior Shelby Austin, “We’re playing about the same, if not better since we’ve had more time to practice. Cold weather has affected it but we’re still in good shape.”

Said senior Karsyn White, “We’ve been doing pretty good. We’ve had a lot of time to practice and get ourselves together. Going into this tournament we’ll be really prepared and we’ll all do our best.”

The West girls took second at the VISD Fall Classic. Now they get to face East and St. Joe and out of town teams like Round Rock McNeil, Laredo LBJ, Veterans Memorial and Tuloso-Midway. I talked with two West girls about tough this tournament will be for them.

Said senior Ansliee Stehling, “It’s bigger than our last tournament. There’s quite a few teams coming in and there’s some good competition coming in. It’s somethingn to look forward to.”
Said junior Emily Bauknight, “It’s important for us to do well because we’re practicing for state and district and we really want to go to regionals. If we do well at this tournament we’ll probably do better at our next tournaments.”

Round one of the Lauren Johnson Memorial Invitational golf tourney Friday morning at Victoria Country Club.
