VISD H.S. Football Scrimmage Previews 8-22

Warriors In Victoria, Titans In Bay City

VISD high school football scrimmages start, and end, Friday night.
East football, coming off a trip to the bi-district playoffs, have five returning starters on defense, four on offense. East has a new starting quarterback in Ethan White, a new starting running back in William Garley. Koby Levigne is back as a starting receiver, joined by new starting wideouts Damien Robles, Evan Brown and Terrance Terrell. I got a Titan football update from head coach Roland Gonzalez.

“It’s all coming back pretty quick. With the start of school so early we’re just excited to get out there and get going against somebody else.”

West football in its second week of workouts, their first full week with pads on, as they get ready for their only pre-season scrimmage. West returns three starters on offense, including quarterback Donovan Harris and All-State running back Tyvon Hardrick. among the six returning starters on defense, All-State defensive back Bryce Sitka. Head coach Courtney Boyce told me their scrimmage last Saturday was a pre-season highlight.

“This team’s been a lot of fun.The most impressive thing was how hard they were pushing themselves to get in shape and then increase in knowledge of what we’re doing. Both of those are coming together and I thought we saw a lot of that last Saturday.”
East and West football’s only pre-season scrimmages come up Friday night. The Warriors face La Grange at 6:30 at Memorial Stadium. The Titans scrimmage at 6:45 at Bay City.
