VISD, Gulf Bend host Community Conversation

VICTORIA- On Monday, VISD partnered with the Gulf Bend Center for a community conversation.

A VISD spokeswoman says the conversation was based on the growing concern on mental health issues. They focused on how it affects students in and out of the classroom, as well as online.

With the number of suicides on the rise this school year, the spokeswoman said they often try to tailor the conversation to where they believe the need is. They believe the topic of mental health was a priority for this conversation. Parents were provided with counseling resources, both through the school district and outside the district to help their child. Along with how to monitor their child’s social media use.

The spokeswoman said the goal of the conversation is to strengthen the support systems of parents and students, alike.

If you missed Monday night’s meeting, VISD has the resources listed on their website under Counseling.
