VISD Girls Basketball Teams Close In On Playoffs

Warriors, Titans Close To Clinching Spots

VISD high school girls basketball, moving very close to officially clinching playoff spots.
Tuesday night, the West girls improved to 10-2 in district play, just one game out of first place, with a home win over Ray. Game-high 24 points for Kennedy Youngblood, 11 apiece for Jozelyn Washington and Carrie Barrera-Lacy, as the Warrior girls pick up win number 29 on the season. I asked head coach Sandra Jimenez how well her team is playing with just four district games left.

“We’re playing real well. I was really pleased with the way we played last night. I just try to tell them we have to keep it one game at a time. We have Miller next before we can focus on anybody else.”

West girls basketball plays in Corpus Christi at Miller Friday night.

East girls basketball, improving to 10-3 in district Tuesday night with a 43-point home win over Moody. That puts the Titan girls in third place and very close to clinching a playoff spot. I asked East girls Leilani Wimbish-Gay and Zakari Perry how good they feel about how they’re playing with just three district games left.

Said Wimbish-Gay, “We’re playing sloppy. We can play better than what we’re playing now. But we just have to get ready for Carroll.”

Said Perry, “We feel alright. I feel good about but I feel we can do better. We have bigger games coming up so we have to be prepared.”

East girls basketball next plays district hoops at Carroll next Tuesday night.
