VISD enrollment numbers rebound after slow start to school year
The Victoria Independent School District announced enrollment numbers have increased by nearly two hundred students since the start of the new school year.
The district experienced enrollment issues to start the year due to their move to online registration as well as the ongoing impact of hurricane harvey on displaced families. Since this past Monday, the district is now only sixty four students short of last year’s enrollment numbers.
Communications Director Shawna Currie expects enrollment numbers to increase through labor day.
“We’re looking at probably making up those sixty four students or at least getting close. We do expect more students to enroll after the labor day holiday. So, we really do expect those numbers to be right on par with the end of last year.”
Currie adds student enrollment numbers are a key factor in funding the district receives and says the rising numbers bode well for the district’s financial future.
