VISD Boys Basketball Showdown Preview

West To Host East Friday Night.

West and East boys basketball meet for the first time this season Friday night.

The Warriors, now 2-3 in district after getting a road win in Corpus Christi over Moody. Kevin Rankin led the way with 18 points, as three West boys scored in double figures. Head coach Pat Erskine told me what’s impressed him the most with his team in 2020.

“Right now our team is believing in themselves. Their confidence level is so much higher, and the preparation before each game has gotten better.”

East boys basketball, now 1-4 in district after a very tough loss at home Tuesday night. The Titans lost to King by one point in double overtime. Andrew Alexander paced the Titans with 13 points. Head coach John Howie told me the biggest thing his team must improve on in order to beat West.

“Obviously right now our free throw shooting has to not be an issue going forward. We’ll play a really good, talented West team on Friday and if we struggle from the free throw line then that’ll translate into a struggle during the game. ”

West basketball hosts East in boys and girls basketball Friday. Girls game first at 6:15.
