VISD bond proposal plans much needed construction for old facilities and new playgrounds

The 156.8 million dollar bond promises to rebuild Stroman Middle school and Mission Valley Elementary school.

VICTORIA, Texas – VISD has been working on a new bond proposal for about 2 years now. They are planning to put the bond proposal up for a vote later in February.

Greg Bonewald, VISD Deputy Superintendent, says once the bond is passed, it will allow construction to update the facilities in schools that really need better quality buildings.

In addition, it will help promote and accomplish student learning throughout the district in a more comfortable manner.

“So we recognize that when kids come to school we want them to come to a place where they are excited to be that only do you feel comfortable and I only having air-conditioning and heating available when needed but we want them to be in environment that stimulates their mind and they are excited to be at. Not only does this have an impact on students but has impact on our ability to attract and retain high-quality staff,” Bonewald said.

The bond will be further discussed and finally voted on by the board on Feb. 9. If passed, it will be on the voting ballot for May 1, 2021.
