VISD Baseball Day One

West Wins Over STJ, Titans Lose

West Baseball 2 26

The VISD baseball tourney, underway Thursday.

After St. Joe lost to Yoakum, 3-2, the Flyers took on West.  After the Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead off Flyers’ starter Mason Longoria, St. Joe gets to West starter Colten Matus in the third. Alex Angerstein, with the RBI double for the Flyers’ first run of the game. But West gets the 9-3 win. Matus with eight strikeouts. Bryce Sitka goes 3-for-3 for West. The Warriors are playing their second game of the day right now against Tuloso-Midway. St. Joe next plays at 9:00 Friday morning at Lowe Field against Carroll.

Then East baseball played it’s first game in the tournament against Sinton.
Bottom of the third, game tied at one. Titans with the bases loaded. Trent Nieto, with the slow grounder. Pirates cannot turn the double play. East takes the lead on the fielder’s choice. Top fourth, Sinton has a runner on second, but Brady Parker gets the strikeout to end the threat. Sinton comes back to win, 5-3.

After losing to Sinton, 5-3, in their first game at the tourney, East baseball played its second game of day one. I was at Riverside for East and Ingleside. Top first, Jarod Tipton of the Titans, tracking down the little blooper to end the inning. Bottom of the first, Matt Gomez hits a little pop, short right. The right fielder drops it. That allows Kevin Rodriguez to score the first run of the game for the Titans. Nate Vela tosses a six-hit shutout in East’s 9-0 win. Tipton and Gomez with two RBI’s apiece. East baseball’s first game on day two of the tournament, Friday afternoon at 2:00 at Riverside vs. Ingleside again. Flour B

luff drops out of the tourney.
