VISD administrators encourage social distancing amid COVID-19 concerns

VICTORIA, Texas – The Victoria ISD board gave a report on how they have been working to keep the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus at bay. Superintendent Quintin Shepherd says they are encouraging people to maintain their distance.

“We’re still encouraging folks to make sure they are following handwashing procedures, that’s a huge one for our community right now,” Shepherd said. “Exercise social distancing if appropriate for people, we’re not making any mandates to anyone or requiring anyone to do anything, we’re looking event-by-event at this point and encouraging social distancing procedures moving forward.”

VISD-related events that have been canceled include a PTO fundraiser for Torres Elementary School that was planned for Friday evening and a Spring Break Camp for at-risk students planned with Mid-Coast Family Services has also been canceled.

As of now there is no Spring Break extension planned for VISD campuses, students are expected to return to campus on Monday, March 23rd.
