Victoria West hires and promotes coaches for the coming year

One familiar and one new face will be on the West athletics coaching staff in the 2021-2022 school year

VICTORIA, Texas– The Victoria West athletic programs are going to have new faces at different positions this coming season.

Starting off with Austin Molinaro, who is replacing Manuel Alvarado as the new head baseball coach.

Molinaro is leaving his previous head coaching job. which was in Bay City as the Blackcats baseball coach. Molinaro played baseball at Austin College for four years as a catcher and third baseman. Molinaro is hoping to bring youth and energy to the team.

“I love being in charge. It’s fun… I like having the final say and honestly it’s about having a relationship with the kids,” says Molinaro. “Being able to help them and guide them in their formative years is the best part.”

Molinaro coached some big names in the sport, including Chris Paddack, who is now a pitcher for the San Diego Padres.

The next coach is a familiar name who has been on the Victoria West football staff for the past four years. Michael Comer is taking over as the new offensive coordinator for the Warriors football program.

He will be the fourth offensive coordinator in four years.

Comer has spent his whole career in Victoria after graduating from Texas State University in 2016. Comer sees this new opportunity as a challenge and hopes to bring consistency to the program.

“The reason I like being here is because I feel like we do a really good job of dealing with the off the field stuff,” says Comer. “We make sure their grades stay straight and that the students remember that they are student-athletes and when we develop them as athletes, we are developing them as young men and leaders.”

Comer hopes to up the tempo in the offense and put a lot of points on the scoreboard. The West Warriors finished with a 8-4 record last year.
