Victoria West and East wrestling teams bring home medals
Girls and boys teams win at the Snakebite Invitational
The Victoria schools wrestling teams traveled to Rio Grande Valley for the Snakebite Invitational at Rio Grande City High School.
West girls wrestlers, Joann Martinez and Ariana Jacques won their first gold medals in a tournament.
East wrestler Ree Anna Fumbanks took home a silver medal finishing in second place in a very controversial finals match. Larissa Velazquez finished third, taking home a bronze medal.
The boys team, starting with West, Isaiah Longoria and Jeremiah Mendoza took first place, each of them winning a gold medal for the first time in their wrestling careers. Both Longoria and Mendoza pinned their opponent in the finals match. Damien Guevara, who has won a medal at every tournament this season took home a gold medal with a win over fellow West wrestler Landon Sheffel, who was wrestling in the same weight class as Damien but was a non-scoring wrestler since he lost to Damien in the wrestle-off earlier in the week. Landon took second, winning a silver medal. Gaige Marthiljohni and Wyatt Mican also finished second.
For the East boys, Geovannie Trevino finished with a silver medal, his fourth second place of the season.
The West boys ended up in third by 11 points.
The teams travel to the Centex Invitational tournament at the Delco Center in Austin.
