Victoria to host four voter registration drives on national Voter Registration Day

VICTORIA, Texas- Tuesday, September 22nd is National Voter Registration Day when all 50 states participate in a massive effort to register voters before Election Day this November.

In order to be eligible to vote in the general election, you must be properly registered. This National Voter Registration Day there will be four locations in Victoria where you can get registered.

Voter Registration Drives Sept. 22, 2020:

  • Pattie Dodson Health Center (curbside) 8 a.m.- 5p.m.
  • Victoria County Elections Office (curbside) 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
  • Victoria College Student Center (curbside) 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
  • University of Houston- Victoria University Commons 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

The Victoria County Elections Department has taken measures to make these drives COVID-19 safe. The County Elections Administrator, Margetta Hill, said, “we will be doing what is required of us. Wearing face masks, and gloves, and will be sanitizing as much as necessary.”

Hill reminds the community to bring your Texas Driver License, and Social Security number to fill out the application. “The number has to match the name, or the Application will be rejected. If it is rejected the voter will be notified to make the correction,” Hill said.

Other important dates for voters in Texas:

  • Oct. 5: Last day to register to vote
  • Oct. 13: Early voting starts
  • Oct. 23: Last day to apply to vote by mail
  • Oct. 30: Early voting ends
  • Nov. 3: Election Day
  • Nov 4 at 5 p.m.: Postmarked mail ballots must be received to be counted

Hill said that she hopes this voter registration drive will “bring awareness to get registered NOW!”
