Victoria swimmers earn gold at state meet

The Victoria Wahoos swim team competed at the state meet July 27-30 and brought home multiple gold medal finishes. The TAAF Summer Games of Texas were held in Edinburg.

Karli Stanush, 8, not only took home first place in the 50-meter freestyle, the 25-meter freestyle and the 25-meter breaststroke; she also broke the state record in the 25-meter breaststroke with a time of 21.78 seconds. The previous record was 22.04 seconds.

Another swimmer taking home gold was Victoria West swimmer, Cristina Cervantes. The 14-year-old clinched first place in the 100-meter freestyle, second place in the 100-meter IM and third in the 50-meter butterfly.

Callie Edmonds, 13, earned two silver medals in the 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter breaststroke. The boys 8 and under freestyle relay took third place. That relay group consists of Colby Jendrzey, Bode Werner, Freddie Smith and Joey Smith.
