VICTORIA, Texas- On Sunday, 03/01/2020, approximately 1:00 PM, VPD Officers were dispatched to the area of 3200 Meadowlane St. in reference to a suspicious subject who was described as a black female carrying an axe and multiple knives.
While en route, officers located the subject, a 51 year old Victoria female, still in possession of several dangerous weapons in the 1800 block of Lova Dr.
Officers communicated with the subject via public address system and numerous times instructed her to put down the axe and knives.
The subject was highly agitated and approached officers and bystanders with the axe and knives in hand. She disregarded officers’ repeated commands to drop the weapons and kept moving towards the officers and public.
For the safety of the subject, bystanders, and officers, less-lethal munitions were deployed and she was safely taken into custody. She was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and a mental health evaluation.
“Officers demonstrated great restraint and were successful in de-escalating a potentially deadly situation. They utilized their training and resources (less-lethal weapon) to assist the subject during a mental health crisis and were able to get her the help she needed,” said Chief JJ Craig.
