Victoria Police Department says to drive slowly when near median construction on Navarro

VICTORIA, Texas – If you have driven along North Navarro Street then you have already seen some construction happening. It’s a Texas Department of Transporation project will add a center median on North Navarro Street. It could take 15 months to complete.

Crews started work at Zac Lentz Parkway and they plan to move south on Navarro Street to Airline Road.

TxDOT is extending the center median.

Workers will close both lanes and the center turn lane at times, so drivers should slow down and watch for TxDOT workers.

“They’ve set up a work zone by blocking off both north and south inside lanes within this construction zone as they go, so we don’t want cars crossing between it, trying to turn left into businesses because you cannot drive through the work zone that they’ve established by putting up the barricades,” said Victoria Police Department officer B.J. Allen.

Additionally, Allen would like to remind drivers that they are required by law to reduce their speed by 20 miles per hour if in the lane closest to TxDOT workers or vacate to the next lane.

So for the next four weeks,  if you’re coming from downtown Victoria, expect delays along Navarro, north of Airline, and be sure to be safe and drive smart.
