Victoria Police Department proposes a budget increase for 2022

Some highlights of the budget include personnel and benefits, necessary equipment, and building improvements.

VICTORIA, Texas – The Victoria Police Department presented a proposed budget of $16.3 million to the City Council this week. Which is a $562,000 increase from 2021.

Some highlights of the budget include personnel and benefits, necessary equipment, and building improvements.

The increased budget comes as the police department aims to retain its officers which would increase public safety in the community.

“We’re going to make sure that we’re in the community, and the way we do that is to make sure we retain our officers, assign them to different areas of the community and make sure they’re engaged in our community and building that public trust, ” says Chief Robert Arredondo, Victoria Police Department.

At this time, the budget is just a proposal but Chief Arredondo feels confident the budget will be approved.

Chief Arredondo also says that the bulk of the budget is to ensure the department has the best tools/equipment necessary to follow its best practices.
