Victoria Police confirm reports of stabbing near UHV were false

Update 3:38 pm:

Victoria Police has released the following statement regarding the report of man wielding a box cutter near Victoria College and University of Houston-Victoria Tuesday afternoon.

“On Tuesday, 09/24/2019, 12:40 PM, the Victoria Police Department received a call of a possible stabbing at a residence in the 2200 block of East Red River St. The caller, a 17 year old Victoria resident, indicated that while standing in the yard of the residence, an unknown male stabbed him with a box cutter then left the area on foot.

VPD Officers combed the area searching for the offender but was unable to locate anyone matching the description.

Through the preliminary investigation, it was determined that the initial information given by the caller at the scene was false. This incident is believed to have been a domestic disturbance.

As a precaution, we understand that several school campuses including UHV, VC, Crain, and Our Lady of Victory initiated a lockdown. They have all since been lifted.

There is no threat to the community and this is believed to be an isolated incident.”

The 17 year-old subject was injured, and he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Victoria Police have not yet decided whether they will press charges against the caller for making a false report. A spokesperson for VPD said that making a false report could be considered a misdemeanor.

Update 2:36pm:

UHV officials have confirmed that the university is no longer on lock down. However, the suspect has not been caught.

While authorities believe he is no longer a threat to the campus, he is still on the run and people are advised to take caution and call the police is you see anyone who matches the description below.

The UHV campus in Victoria is on lockdown.

UHV has released the following warning: “Please remain indoors, and do not leave your location. A black male wearing all black and carrying a box cutter has attacked individuals with a box cutter on the corner of Ben Jordan and Red River near the Stripes convenience store. Further updates will be sent as information is available.”
