Victoria Open set to tee off Wednesday

Tournament is being held for 25th consecutive year

VICTORIA, Texas — Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Victoria Open will tee off from Victoria County Club for the 25th consecutive year.

The Open is set to begin on Wednesday, with a record field of 155 players from the collegiate and professional ranks. Sanitizing stations and social distancing will be utilized to help mitigate the potential spread of the virus on the course.

“We’ve got All-Americans here from college, we have, like I said, guys who’ve won on the Korn Ferry Tour before, guys who have played on the PGA Tour,” said Tournament Director Patrick Murphy. “So we’ve got a huge field here.”

Due to the pandemic, the event will be open only to Victoria Country Club members and the families of those participating. The first place finisher for the event will earn a $25,000 prize, with a $120,000 purse in total.

Tuesday featured the annual tournament Pro-Am before competition begins at 7:30 am on Wednesday. The final round and awards ceremony will take place on Saturday.
