Victoria I.S.D. appoints new principal, a familiar face returns to education foundation and preparing for online student registration
The district is seeking partners in practicum and receives fourth music education designation
VICTORIA, Texas – The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of Michelle Sturm as the new principal of Dudley Elementary. Sturm has more than two decades of educational experience, most of which has occurred with VISD.
After beginning her teaching career at Vickers Elementary in 1998, Sturm worked at the former Guadalupe Elementary among other VISD elementary schools. She has recently served as the Assistant Principal of Schorlemmer Elementary for the last four years.
Sturm holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Students from the University of Houston-Victoria and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University.
After more than 20 years in education, I am excited to grow as a leader in VISD,” said Sturm. “I will strive to continue the work of guiding the students, staff and families of Dudley Elementary toward excellence.”
Sturm will replace Steven Carroll following his hiring as the Director of Secondary Professional and Paraprofessional Talent in the Talent Acquisition, Support and Retention department at VISD.
She will be responsible for coordinating administrative oversight while ensuring the success of students and staff at the campus by ensuring high standards of instructional service.
Tammy Garza, Executive Director of Elementary Student Learning & Talent Development, is excited to have Sturm move into this role at Dudley Elementary, stating, “She is passionate about sustaining a collaborative culture with the families and staff at Dudley Elementary. She is a systems thinker with high expectations for teaching and learning, and I am thrilled to have her join the principal team.”
HARKEY RETURNS TO FORMER ROLE WITH VISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION
The Victoria ISD is excited to welcome Robin Harkey back to the VISD Education Foundation where she will serve in her prior role as the Executive Director.
The Executive Director is responsible for the planning, direction, development, administration, supervision and implementation of a comprehensive internal and external development program that will complement and provide financial assistance toward the funding of the VISD Education Foundation.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Harkey will resume her responsibilities for the monthly STARS campaign and a large-scale annual fundraiser.
The monthly STARS campaign honors one VISD teacher and one VISD staff member nominated by their peers for going above and beyond in their everyday work.
The fundraiser each year is used to fund grants, including the Foundation’s Grants for Great Ideas, and scholarships to graduating VISD seniors.
Under Harkey in January 2021, the VISD Education Foundation conducted the Bright Ideas Telethon.
During this two-hour event, more than $63,000 was raised to benefit students and faculty in Victoria I.S.D.
In February 2022, the foundation hosted Michael Carbonaro, American actor, magician and improv artist, at the Victoria Fine Arts Center and raised more than $53,000, despite the pandemic.
To date, Harkey has been responsible for securing more than $1.5 million for the VISD Education Foundation and VISD.
Victoria I.S.D. preparing for 2022-23 online student registration
As Victoria ISD prepares for the 2022-23 school year, online student registration will begin on Monday, May 2, 2022.
All students, current and new, who will attend a VISD school in the 2022-23 school year must register using the online system, including those entering Pre-K.
Online registration is available in both English and Spanish.
In preparation for online student registration, all school offices must have an up-to-date, accurate email address, mailing address and primary phone number for each child so parents/guardians may receive all-important letters and announcements.
Beginning April 25, VISD will email parents/guardians of students currently enrolled in the VISD a Snapcode letter.
Parents with more than one child currently enrolled in the VISD should receive a unique Snapcode email for each current student.
Parents of students new to VISD in 2022-23 can also log on to the VISD online registration link beginning May 2 to register for 2022-23 by clicking on the “Online Student Registration” button on the VISD website homepage. No Snapcode is needed for new students.
Additional information about the online registration process is posted on the VISD website; click the “Online Student Registration” button
