Victoria Hurricanes Lose In Title Game Plus World Cup Monday Scores

The Victoria Hurricanes hopes of winning the Crossroads Amateur Football League title, coming up just short.
The Hurricanes lost in the championship game Saturday night in Katy to the Houston Ducks, 12-8. Bryant Wolf scored all the Hurricanes points on a 20-yard TD run and a two-point conversion run. The Hurricanes were trying to become the first team in league history to win back-to-back titles with back-to-back unbeaten seasons. Team owner Rudy Guzman told me he was proud of the team’s effort, pointing out strong rushing efforts by Donnie Butler and Chris Sanders, plus standout defensive play by Cory Ford and Ruben Dennis.

SOCHI, Russia (AP) – Belgium broke lose in the second half to defeat newcomer Panama 3-0 in its opening World Cup game in Sochi, Russia. The Panamanians are making their first World Cup appearance. Their fans largely outnumbered the Belgians and constantly chanted in support of their team, even when trailing by three goals.

And in Volgograd, Harry Kane’s stoppage-time header clinched a tense 2-1 win for England in its opening World Cup game against Tunisia. Kane’s winning header came as the clock had just ticked over into injury time. Standing alone at the far post he guided a Harry Maguire header into the Tunisian net.
MEXICO CITY (AP) – Mexico’s National Seismological Service says there was seismic activity around the country’s capital Sunday, but it wasn’t linked to soccer fans celebrating their country’s game-winning goal vs. Germany at the World Cup.

The service says in a report that there were two small earthquakes at 10:24 a.m. and 12:01 p.m. The goal came around 11:35 a.m. local time.

A geological institute reported Sunday that seismic detectors had registered a false earthquake that may have been generated by “massive jumps” by fans.

Mexico’s Seismological Service explained Monday that the city’s normal bustle of traffic and other movement causes vibrations that are detected by sensitive instruments.

It says those vibrations notably quieted during the match as people gathered in front of TVs to watch, and rose after the goal.
