Victoria Golfers Doing Well In Southern Texas PGA Tourney
Two Victoria golfers are in the top 20 in a Southern Texas PGA Tour stop Monday. Victoria Country Club golf head pro Joe Mitchell, tied for sixth after round one of the Tradition Championship at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land. Mitchell shot an even par 72 with birdies on holes 2, 9, 12 and 18, and bogeys on 3, 6, 8 and 17. Casey Russell, head pro at The Club at Colony Creek, tied for 20th after a first round 75. Russell had birdies on 3 and 13, bogeys on 7, 15 and 18, and a double bogey on 4.
SUGAR LAND, TX (July 23, 2018) -Justin Engel, Assistant PGA Professional at Royal Oaks Country Club leads after round one of the 2018 Tradition Championship. Engel fired an opening round of 4-under-par 68 to lead the field heading into tomorrow’s final round.
Two shots behind Engel at 2-under-par 70 sits Rufus Brijalba (The Hills Country Club). Garrett Driver (Wildcat Golf Club), Jeff Litwak (Lochinvar Golf Club), and Greg Hillar (TPC San Antonio) share the third-place spot after shooting 71 (-1).
The Tradition Championship, the fourth Major Tournament of the 2018 schedule, also includes a Senior Division that is comprised of 19professionals ages 50 and older who are competing for a separate $5,700 purse and are playing from a modified yardage. The Senior Division Champion will take home $1,600. Tim Hobby (The Club at Sonterra) currently sits at the top spot on the Senior Division leaderboard at 1-under par 72.
Riverbend Country Club, a 6,892-yard, par 72 course, is playing host to the Tradition Championship, presented by Cutter & Buck, Devant Sports Towels, Garia, GT Golf Supplies, Rigstar Industrial Telecom, and Yamaha in Sugar Land. The Open Division consists of 57 PGA Professionals from the Southern Texas PGA Section competing for a $16,800 purse. The Champion will take home $3,000.
