Victoria Empty Bowls Event This Sunday
This Sunday Victoria College will be hosting its 13th Annual Victoria Empty Bowls event. The bowls for the event can be purchased for fifteen dollars. “You get the soup that has been donated by our local restaurants, tea, and bread,” said Debra Chronister Victoria Empty Bowls Co-Chairman.
Empty Bowls originated from Michigan twenty years ago but Sherri Pall tells me she thought of the idea through some friends in Austin. “I got the idea from some clay friends that we have in Austin and they have been doing one in their community for several years and were very successful,” said Sherri Pall Victoria Empty Bowls Co-Chairman.
Victoria College’s Dirt Nerds made over 800 bowls but the ones that failed to make the cut.. ” One, two, five dollars for someone to take a bowl that doesn’t hold soup and smash it against a cinder block wall. Bash a bowl,” said Chronister.
As Megan Perez helped with creating the bowls, she was very passionate in wanting to help the hungry. “There are plenty of people in this town and elsewhere that are hungry and part of the cause is help fight hunger and that to me is important.,” said Megan Perez Victoria College Ceramics Student.
The event will be from 11am-2pm on Sunday. Proceeds from Victoria Empty Bowls will benefit the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, Christ’s Kitchen, Victoria Christian Assistance Ministry (VCAM), Victoria County Senior Citizen Center, and Victoria College Visual Arts Scholarship.
