Victoria East, West powerlifters headed to regionals

Victoria ISD boys powerlifters are competing at the regional meet on Saturday.

Leading the way for West is Chayce Grevey, who was the state champion last year. This year, he’s in a new weight class (181 lb.). His teammate Ken’twaun Freeman is also competing at 181 lb. Benny Lara, who is going to regionals for the third-straight year, is at 114 lb. with teammate Michael Casillas. The Warriors’ Jason Suniga will compete at 275 lb.

East is sending three boy powerlifters to regionals. Jonathan Zelaya is going to regionals in the 148 lb. weight class. He has won all five meets he has competed in this season. Malakye Adams is making his first trip to regionals in the Super Heavyweight class. Christian Oviedo is competing at 220 lb.

East and West boys powerlifters compete at the regional meet on Saturday at Weslaco East High School.
