Victoria County respond to Jail Standards non-compliance report
VICTORIA, Texas — Victoria County Commissioners have submitted their formal response to a Texas Commission on Jail Standards report which rated the county jail as non-compliant due to mold.
County Judge Ben Zeller says the commission assessed the county jail and rated it non-compliant without key information on projects the county ran to fix the mold issue.
This includes installing a new HVAC system, a new dehumidifier system and cleaning the jail’s air ducts. With the new information submitted to the state, Zeller believes the state will re-assess and give the county jail a compliance rating.
“We sent them a detailed letter, chronologically, of all the things that have been going on to fix this issue with a hundred pages of supporting documentation. I’m confident that once they review that, they’ll see that we’re on the right track and, hopefully, we can put this issue behind us very soon.”
There is no timeline for when the Jail Standards Commission will issue a new report on the Victoria County Jail.
