Victoria County plans to hire new Elections Administrator
After weeks of deliberation, Victoria County officials met this morning to decide whether to keep the elections administrator position after long time administrator George Matthews resigned or give the duties to the county clerk and tax assessor.
The county decided to keep the election administrator position and start the job search to fill the position. Victoria County Judge, clerk, tax assessor and both Republican and Democratic party chairs met this morning to review the job description. The election commission plans to post the job opening on the county website by next Tuesday.
“Certainly I think it was a good process looking at all our options but there’s a lot of value in having that as separate position and I think Victoria County is best served by having that as an independent department,” Victoria County Judge, Ben Zeller said.
The county will not appoint an interim election administrator and plan to have a finalist in the the next two months.
