Victoria County Commissioner confirms The Long Term Recovery Group Center is almost complete

VICTORIA, Texas—-The Victoria County Commissioners discussed the continuation of funding for the Victoria County Long Term Recovery Group. Danny Garcia the Victoria County Commissioner for Precinct 1 took gave tour of the new building for The Long Term Recovery Group Center.

“Now this facility will be the only one of its kind in the area and FEMA is looking at it as a model for the rest of the United States. So what we’re doing here is revolutionary really,” said Danny Garcia, the Victoria County Commissioner Precinct 1.

During a natural disaster, this building will be able to hold a total of 100 people. The rooms will have 24 beds for women and another 24 beds for men. If additional room is needed, the front area of the building will be available.

“Then we have our Emergency Management Director Rick McBrayer who’s also been working with us in trying to figure out a way that this can be used for the Emergency Management as well as a second location,” said Garcia.

Garcia says this location will be available for all surrounding counties and the funding for this building came through donations throughout the community.

“So they gave us the money to purchase the building and then on top of that they gave us an additional $900,000 to renovate it and turn it into dorms, waiting for areas, offices for organizations, volunteer organizations that we work with during and after a disaster.

The Long Term Recovery Group Center was scheduled to be complete by the end of September but due delays caused by the pandemic, the date has been pushed back to the end of October.
