Victoria Airport Commission place hold on new airport projects

The Victoria Airport Commission voted unanimously Thursday morning to place a two year hold on future airport projects so they can focus on current projects and the arrival of Silver Airways.

Airport Commissioner Dennis Patillo explained the decision was made as a gesture of good faith to the FAA after the airport received nearly ten million dollars in grants from the agency this year.

Patillo says the airport is self-funded for the first time in nearly a decade thanks to the grants and believes taking on new projects could impact their ability to receive these grants in the future.

He added the airport will instead focus on projects already included in their master plan, including rehabbing the airport’s main runway and prepping for Silver Airways’s arrival on November 1st.
