Veterans of Foreign Wars repair famed ‘Cobra’ Memorial Helicopter
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of Port Lavaca announced Thursday morning that repairs on their famous Cobra Gun Ship memorial have been completed.
The Cobra Gun Ship, located at VFW Post 4403 on 16 Konrad Road, was damaged during Hurricane Harvey, with the back rotors nearly torn off. Since then, Vietnam veterans Ken Kohutek and Bill Brayshaw led the repair project on the Cobra, with repairs being completed on September 1st. Kohutek says he was not only honored to work on the Cobra, he felt it was his duty to repair the famed chopper.
“To see the damage that it had endured… it needed to be repaired. Because, it does deserve the dignity and respect that any military solider or military operation or any other monument should require and rightfully deserve.”
With the repairs completed, the military post will begin installing navigation lights on the cobra, which will be operational when completed for all to see.
