VC Volleyball Falls to Blinn as Former Goliad Standout Shines
The Victoria College Pirates Fell to the Blinn College Buccaneers on Tuesday in straight sets, dropping their record against National Junior Athletic Association opponents this season to 0-10. Blinn, ranked number 20 in the latest NJCAA poll, took the first two sets, 25-18, 25-17, before coming back from a 9-5 deficit to take the third, 25-20.
The contest marked the return to the Crossroads of former Goliad standout Roxanne Morris. Morris led the way for the Buccaneers in the contest, tallying six kills, 19 assists, 11 digs and a pair of aces. The sophomore was a former state champion with the Tigers and was named State 3A player of the year back in 2016. Her older sister, Jess Odem, now coaches the Goliad varsity team.
The Pirates were led by Katy Salziger, also of Goliad, and Kate Sexton of Palacios. The two sophomores had eight kills apiece in the losing effort. Amber Hernandez added 11 assists while Bailey Brown had nine of her own. Former West Warrior Victoria McDevitt added five blocks for VC.
The Pirates will head on the road next, competing in the North Central Texas College Tournament in Gainesville this coming weekend.
