VC Sports Teams Go For League Titles In S.A. 4-5

Volleyball, Women's Hoops Top Seeded Teams

The end of an era for Victoria College sports this weekend.
For the past decade plus, the Pirates have been extremely successful playing in their club league against other teams from around south Texas. VC has won four league championships in women’s basketball, three in men’s basketball and eight league crowns in volleyball. This weekend, two Victoria College teams will play their last league championship tournament. VC volleyball and women’s basketball are top seeded. Volleyball won the league tournament last year. The Pirates will start NJCAA play in August. I talked with some of the Pirate athletes about their seasons.

Said basketball player Morgan Trevino, “It means a lot just to win it, to get that far as we did. We also entered the tournament last year ranked as number one and we came up short. We’re in the same position but hopefully we can finish it this year.”

Said volleyball player Casey Jackson, “We play together so well and when we see somebody down we pick them up. We’re just ready to play our hardest and get another title back-to-back.”

Said volleyball and basketball player Katy Salziger, “We work together very well. We work as a team, like as a family. If there’s ever any problems we know how to work through them and that’s what just gets us through it.”

Those Victoria College teams play for league titles this weekend at Palo Alto College in San Antonio.
